Drug smuggler and accused of attacking police arrested.

District police have arrested a criminal accused of attacking police, committing robbery, and drug trafficking. Police also recovered approximately 15 grams of heroin from the arrested individual at the scene. SSP Amneet Kaundal said that under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Jasmeet Singh Sahiwal, DSP Bhucho Manjit Singh, and the Nehianwala Police Station Chief, the police are conducting a campaign against drug smugglers. As part of this campaign, on August 21st, a police team was traveling from Kothe Inder Singh village to Mahima Sawai village. When the police team reached the bridge at Mahima Sawai village, a young man was seen carrying a light green transparent envelope in the vehicle’s headlights on the right side of the bridge. He tried to escape from the police vehicle, after which ASI Lakhwinder Singh, with the help of his staff, arrested the young man.

HMEL to invest ₹2,600 crore in Bathinda refinery for downstream expansion.

HPCL Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) plans to invest Rs 2,600 crore in its Bathinda refinery for setting up polypropylene downstream industries and new fine chemical projects, the company said on Tuesday. Apart from producing fuels such as petrol, diesel and gas, HMEL is planning to expand industrial activities through fine chemical projects in Bathinda, said Prabhu Das, managing director and chief executive officer at HMEL. HMEL’s Guru Gobind Singh refinery in Punjab meets around 14 per cent of the country’s total polypropylene demand, he added. The investment is expected to create new employment opportunities for youth at the Bathinda refinery, which currently provides direct and indirect employment to nearly 10,000 people, said Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora. The minister assured HMEL that all necessary approvals for the expansion would be provided in a time-bound manner.

Bathinda admn to install 150 hi-tech cameras to strengthen surveillance.

To strengthen surveillance and improve law-and-order monitoring, the Bathinda district administration has begun installing high-resolution automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and high-definition (HD) CCTV cameras at 30 key locations across the city. The ₹83-lakh project is being rolled out under the district mineral fund under which 153 surveillance cameras are being installed, officials said on Wednesday. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jyoti Yadav said these cameras are equipped with advanced software and will be capable of recording high-quality footage even during the night. She clarified that the district police had no plan yet to utilise the infrastructure for penalising traffic rule offenders. “The primary focus of installing high-quality cameras is to maintain law and order. Unlike standard CCTV cameras, ANPR cameras can automatically capture registration numbers of all types of vehicles. The project would help us in monitoring the movement of vehicles,” she added.

Speaking to reporters, the former India right-arm off-spinner congratulated the Punjab Government, Bathinda Mayor and the PCA President Amarjit Singh Mehta on the launch of the Bathinda Premier League, noting that with this, a number of players will get an opportunity to play cricket. “The league is starting. Many players will get an opportunity. This initiative has been taken by the Punjab government, Bathinda Mayor, and Punjab Cricket Association President Amarjit Singh Mehta… I got the chance to come here, and I am very happy,” Harbhajan Sing told reporters.

Robotic surgery to be introduced at BFUHS Bathinda cancer institute.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Saturday conducted a surprise inspection at the Advanced Cancer Institute at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Bathinda, ordering a comprehensive overhaul of infrastructure, technology, and manpower while asserting that there will be no compromise in treatment standards. Mann announced that the institute will be developed into a world-class healthcare center, with the introduction of advanced facilities including robotic surgery and immediate steps to strengthen staffing. The Chief Minister announced that several need-based facilities will be introduced in the institute. “Concerted efforts will be made to further ensure the well-being of patients by introducing several need-based facilities. Robotic surgery will also be introduced in this apex hospital so as to benefit patients in a big way. Necessary steps will be taken for introducing robotic surgery in this hospital at the earliest,” he said.

Bathinda Police launch anti-drug drive; 13 smugglers arrested in district-wide raids.

As part of the anti-drug campaign, the district police arrested 13 people at various locations and seized 100 grams of opium, 112.75 grams of heroin, and 250 narcotic capsules. Thermal police arrested Tinku alias Babbu, a resident of Janta Nagar, near the railway overbridge on Malout Road with 3.50 grams of heroin. Cantt police station arrested Sagar Singh, a resident of Kotha Baba Lakha Singh, Bhucho Mandi, from the Central Jail parking lot with 68.25 grams of heroin. CIA Staff-2 also arrested a woman named Jyoti from the Beed Talab area with 30 grams of heroin. Nathana police station arrested Harmel Singh, a resident of Kalyan Sukhkha, near the Ganga village bus stand with 90 banned capsules. Bhagta Bhaika police station arrested Tarsem Singh, a resident of Jalal, from Dayalpura village with 100 grams of opium, while a team from the same police station arrested Jaswinder Singh from Hamirgarh village with 100 narcotic capsules.
